Now that its enactment is upon us, the law requires all employers to provide earned sick and safe leave to employees for work performed in the county. The goal is to provide employees with paid leave or time off to take care of things such as sickness, family illnesses or domestic violence.
There are implications for almost every employer in Montgomery County. It is possible that you may already be in compliance if you currently offer paid time off or other leave benefits to your employees. However, the law affects every employee, whether part-time or full-time, so you must consider in particular how your business handles part-time leave benefits. You should update your employment policies, if you have not done so already, as failure to comply with the new law may result in significant penalties, including monetary damages.
